Overview
The Mission provides technical and professional expertise to the country’s parliaments and assemblies, as well as local-level governmental bodies, enabling them to deliver services to citizens in a timely, transparent and equitable manner. The Mission also works with Bosnia and Herzegovina's legislatures on developing, amending and promoting reform-related legislation on a variety of topics; as well as on oversight; conflicts of interest; and elections.
As healthy democracies require active citizens who can express their needs to elected and appointed officials, the Mission works to increase civic participation ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard and considered by their government. The Mission enhances the capacity of civil society and works with government institutions to ensure there are mechanisms in place that enable civic participation on key issues, such as public spending and strategic planning. Engaging citizens in the decision-making process improves the accountability of authorities and creates more inclusive and cohesive communities.
