SARAJEVO, 10 December 2025 - The OSCE Mission to BiH (Mission) strongly condemns the recent hate-motivated incident in Kupres in which the local imam was subjected to insults and acts reflecting religious intolerance.
Attacks against religious officials represent an attack not only on an individual but on the community as a whole. They undermine the critical values of mutual respect, dignity, understanding and peace.
There should be no tolerance for hate speech, intimidation, or incitement to violence in any community in the country.
We welcome the reaction of local authorities in condemning this incident and call for a timely and thorough investigation of the incident. Potential hate motives should be considered accordingly and perpetrators must be brought to justice.
The Mission will continue to closely monitor institutional responses and work with communities on addressing religion-based intolerance.
