OSCE Mission supports discussion on strengthening protection mechanisms against domestic violence in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton

MOSTAR, 22 July 2026 - Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Rick Holtzapple, participated today in a thematic session of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Assembly dedicated to strengthening protection mechanisms against domestic violence and violence against women.

The session was attended by representatives of legislative and executive authorities, law enforcement institutions, and civil society organizations to discuss challenges and opportunities in improving protection and support for victims and survivors.

In his remarks, Ambassador Holtzapple welcomed recent legislative developments across Bosnia and Herzegovina and emphasized that meaningful progress depends on effective implementation, strong inter-institutional co-operation, and adequate support services.

“The true measure of progress lies in implementation. Protection mechanisms must be accessible, coordinated, and responsive to the needs of victims and survivors,” Ambassador Holtzapple said.

The discussion focused on strengthening institutional responses, enhancing accountability, and identifying practical steps to improve protection measures and support services throughout the Canton.

The OSCE Mission remains committed to supporting authorities and partners in strengthening legislative frameworks, institutional capacities, and co-ordination mechanisms to ensure a comprehensive and victim-centred response to domestic violence and violence against women.
