Roma and Sinti

The Mission is committed to promoting equal access for Roma citizens to public institutions and ensuring the full enjoyment of their rights, while actively working to eliminate all forms of discrimination.

Overview

Recognizing the issues hindering the inclusion of Roma, the Mission supports local authorities in the development of Local Roma Action Plans, advocates for improved policy and legal frameworks and implements other related activities for a more responsible integration of Roma and other national minorities (including numerical minorities, mostly returnees) in society.

The Mission supports the improvement of the legislative framework on national minorities and closely co-operates with the State- and entity-level National Minorities Councils, the advisory bodies that should ensure greater political participation of the national minorities and effective realization of their rights.

The Mission regularly co-ordinates and liaises with the OSCE Commissionaire on National Minorities as well as ODIHR Contact Point for Roma and Sinti.
